Great thought Niklas! I do believe that people will become emotionally attached to their models. We already see examples of this with Replika.
I believe OpenAI is probably taking the safer approach for the near future until we can be more thoughtful about how we connect personally with our AIs but I think you're right, there may be some downside in regards to switching costs.
